A half-oval of sterling silver with a flat back and tapering edges, featuring one brilliantly green flush-set emerald and hung on a sterling silver chain.
This pendant takes its distinctive woodgrain-like texture from the unique process by which it was made: cuttlefish casting! In this type of casting a design is hollowed out of a piece of cuttlebone (the hard, calcium-rich internal shell of the cuttlefish, often found washed up on the beach). Because cuttlebone is comprised of many fine layers of material, when moulten metal is poured into the carving the resulting piece features a pattern of ridges, just like those found here.
