These earrings from Ann Welton have a great focus on texture. They are organically formed from cutting around the indented sections, each are primarily circular but both are unique. The earrings are also reversible, the shaped disk can slide off the ear hook and be put back on however you would like.
They have been brought to a matte finish with enough of a shine to them that you can see light reflections, this gives the earrings a bright and eye-catching appearance.
Measurements: Each of the earrings are approximately 30mm in diameter. The silver sheet is about 0.4mm thick, but with all the texture it is 2.5mm thick. The total drop length from the hook is 42mm.
Materials: Fine silver, sterling silver.
Ann Welton discovered gold and silver smithing while studying at NMIT. She went on to complete Bachelor of Fine Art (Gold and Silver Smithing) (Honours) at RMIT, which allowed her to extend her exploration of vessel and jewellery making.
“My works are strongly influenced by growing up in rural communities, with landscapes that reflected a complex interplay of the natural and undisturbed and imposed farming practises. The beauty of these landscapes was often subtle, even unexpected. Colours were muted, variations subtle, but the textures associated with them were strong and distinctive. Consequently, texture has become a driving force in my making because of its power to connect one to place and people.” ~Ann Welton
