Jackson Rumble began working with metal and wood during high school and quickly developed a love of both materials.
"My passion for woodworking led me to my first job at Thor’s Hammer, a timber recycling mill and joinery shop in Canberra. Later I attended the Thawa Valley Forge, initially as a knife making student and shortly afterwards as an instructor. Knife making quickly became an obsession as I was able to combine both woodworking and metal smithing in my developing art practice."
10 years on, Jackson has built a workshop that combines traditional metal forging with new state of the art
technologies. This combination allows for experimental metalsmithing techniques where he pushes the boundaries of what is possible with metals and merges all manner of materials into knifemaking designs.
"As I developed and expanded my forging techniques into stainless steel and titanium. I began to see their applications in jewellery, particularly wedding bands and earrings. The material properties combined with the intricate patterns developed in the forge welding process quickly became a new obsession of mine. Today in my jewellery practice I am constantly developing new patterns and combining new materials to create beautiful functional objects that will last a lifetime."
