Rachael has been making jewellery for some time now and believes that a piece of jewellery is not just a visual object that makes a statement about who we are and what we value but it should also be tactile and fun. Her work is intended to not just be worn but to be touched and felt.
For her, tactile is not only for the wearer, but for herself the maker too. It is about the entire process; concept; design; refinement; problem solving; construction; and finally the satisfaction and honour of having a little something of hers fill a little corner of happiness for another. She completed a Bachelor of Design in Jewellery and Metalsmithing through the University of South Australia in the 1992 and soon after had a piece purchased as a Contemporary Art Acquisition by the Art Gallery of South Australia. This was just the beginning of her exhibiting for the next years through Australia and Japan.
She cherishes traditional, handmade techniques and aims to make contemporary works with the use of these. She strives to design and construct jewellery that is unique, well made and touchable. She has always had a love of architecture and an appreciation of geometric forms; clean lines; contrasting materials; the combinations of uniqueness with functionality/practicality.
