Made from the highest quality Amakusa porcelain, these ring keepers embody traditional craftsmanship, renewal and the Japanese spirit of mo’tainai. Made during an artist residency at Kouraku Kiln (Arita, Japan) each ring keeper was hand cast in a small factory but rejected at the final stage because of a near-imperceptible glaze colouration defect. Unable to be sold or disposed of, the pieces entered a factory limbo until reimagined. Using vintage decals also salvaged from the factory waste stream, Emily transformed pieces once rejected for their imperfection into unique individual artworks.

Measurements: Exterior, 40mm wide x 38mm tall. Interior base, 35mm wide x 14.5mm deep. Interior top, 27.5mm to 35mm wide x 21mm deep

Emily Kerr is a ceramic artist based on Ngunnawal Country in Canberra. She works with porcelain and stoneware clays, wood-firing whenever possible at Old Saint Lukes Studio in Gundaroo (Ian Jones and Moraig McKenna). In 2025 Emily completed an artist residency at Kouraku Kiln (Arita, Japan) where she focussed on porcelain surface decoration. Her recent work reflects this influence, and her growing interest in pattern design.
