Artist Melanie Ihnen has crafted a pair of rectangular cufflinks in monel and 18ct yellow gold, with sterling silver posts and toggles. The grey sheen of the monel contrasts next to the yellow, honey-hued gold.
Across the length of the face of each cufflink the monel reaches 12mm, while the yellow gold makes up the remaining 7mm.
Materials: Monel, 18ct yellow gold, sterling silver.
Measurements of cufflink face: 18mm x 11mm x 0.9mm
Melanie is passionate about making and crafting and this has naturally led to a long career as a jewellery gallery director, and as a teacher and mentor.
In 2008 she co-founded Studio 20/17 in Danks Street Waterloo Creative Precinct, a jewellery studio and gallery with an exhibition program, retail space, and a jewellery tutoring. She left the business in 2018 to pursue her private practice and is currently creating her production and bespoke pieces, and running classes in her own studio and tutoring at Square Peg Studios in Marrickville.
Her works are an exploration of technique and form, and each piece embodies clean lines and surfaces with an elegant and minimalist aesthetic. Her signature technique of Married Metals is created with the subtle gold and grey tonal variations of precious metals incorporated with precious gems
